Diabetes Nurse for VIP Family in Saudi Arabia
Nursing position to manage "intensive therapy" program of diabetes care for three children (M16, F14,
M9) with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. These otherwise healthy children have been on "intensive therapy" program since onset,
and all three are using insulin pumps. Nurse will share duties and
trade vacations and holidays with a Canadian nurse who has managed the treatment programs for a
number of years. Nurse will live in a private suite in large protected
family compound, with the possibility of travel with the family inside Saudi Arabia and to international locations including Europe and North America. Must be mature, even-tempered, healthy, energetic, non-smoker. (This is not a "Nanny" position, as there are other staff with these responsibilities.)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess, plan and implement program of intensive diabetes therapy for two children.
- Collaborate with parents and with private family physician who treats the children.
- Monitor glucose levels frequently during the course of the day.
- Administer insulin injections as appropriate for glucose level and food intake.
- Maintain detailed records for use in long-term assessment and re-evaluation.
- Advise parents and household staff on proper diet for the children.
- Maintain vigilance for hypoglycemia and undertake corrective action.
- Check routinely for signs of complications; record and report findings.
- Maintain equipment in good working order and appropriate inventory of supplies.
Required Training and Experience
- BSN, RN, RGN or recognized international equivalent.
- Specialty courses or other training in Diabetes Mellitus.
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) preferred.
- Minimum 10 years nursing experience.
- Recent experience in providing routine care for diabetic children.
- Previous home care experience with intensive therapy preferred.
- Knowledge of Arabic language NOT required; family members are fluent in English.
